Background
We use Blackboard Learn for our learning management system (LMS) in a self-hosted environment. In late September 2014, CSM engaged in a COOP process (continuity of operational planning). At the same time, it was noted that CSM’s contract with Blackboard expires on December 31, 2016. Based on these developments, an initial group recommended that CSM (1) move to a hosted environment and (2) evaluate three hosted systems – Blackboard Learn, Instructure Canvas, and Brightspace D2L. The objective is to fully transition to a hosted LMS by the Spring 2017 semester. Learn more by going to "About."

Learn more about the three LMS:
"I will be the first to admit that Bb has room for improvement, as we all do. Bb still has work to do specifically in the areas of quality assurance and testing. However, they have improved there quality of support, their pace of innovation, and they seem to have a renewed focus on their clients." - Melissa Strange

"Last year, Santa Fe College switched to Canvas by Instructure, a smaller company. Ciardulli said the faculty found Canvas an easy platform to use, along with other perks when going with a smaller company. “The nice thing about smaller platforms like Desire2Learn and Canvas is that they are more responsive to their users. Blackboard has been so big for so long they have trouble doing that. I think they’re trying to change that because that’s their reputation now.” - Michelle Harven

"Really focusing in on students has a huge impact on their engagement, really transforms the learning outcomes, and [achieves] the better retention that we all want to strive for. I feel like we've come a long way as a company. We're finally getting to this promise that we've always held with this technology to have an impact beyond simply putting things online."
